Leslie Michelle's Story
Brief Bio since 1973
I graduated from Skidmore with a double major -degrees in Psychology and in Elementary Education = then From Lesley Graduate School, Cambridge MA with a Masters in Special Education- Severe Special Needs.
For 40 years I taught children aged 3-18 with Autism Spectrum Disorders in private and public schools as well as in their homes. For 20 of those years I also owned a consulting business, Spectrum Services, presenting at 20+ conferences and conducting teacher trainings throughout Massachusetts. I plan to run a website providing information, tips learned and providing materials for free for teachers, parents as well as autistics but it has to wait for now as half my weekends are spent caring for my parents.
I was married to an artist, Bryant Wood, also from Skidmore (now deceased), divorced in 1982.
Following the divorce I lived in Lyon, France 1982-3 to learn to speak French fluently, traveling to Greece, Switzerland, Pakistan & Thailand.
In 1985 I met and soon married Adrian Touw, a Dutchman from Amsterdam. Still love him madly! We live in Concord, MA. A world traveler himself, we love traveling and hiking. Favorites- The alps (Swiss & Italian), Rome, Morocco, EGYPT and the Galapagos.
Also music!-Blues, jazz, Nuevo Tango, going to many concerts, from early music (1300's) to Mahler, Elgar & Vaughn Williams & Montreal ...Expand for more
Jazz festival. We also enjoy attending and watching 'real football' i.e. soccer- the US and Dutch National teams, Dutch team Ajax and English Premier League Arsenal (bit frustrating last 6 years) & Liverpool under Klopp.
I became a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do but switched to Tai Chi in 2010 which is when I also stopped skiing, Since 1987 I have been a competitive tennis player winning championships with several leagues. My 55+ team became N Eng Champions in 2018 and competed in the USTA Nationals in Orlando. Rules dictated we split up the next year. The team has reunited after Covid and hope to vet back there this year (2022)
I'm a avid gardener and design gardens for friends & family. The same for interior design. Other Interests include cooking -esp. northern Italian and French dishes- old movies (esp 1930-1965), and studying philosophy, Early Christianity, Buddhism, and mythology. I especially love researching my family's genealogy and getting seriously into photography, having self published several books in both areas.
I volunteer for various community events and am politically active for progressive causes and community issues such as getting the village train station reopened.
As Joseph Campbell said- "Follow your bliss!"
Love keeps the heart young, curiosity -the mind.
So never stop loving others and being curious about new things!
